Moving-out preparation guide

Victoria End of Lease Cleaning Checklist

A useful end-of-lease checklist separates the renter’s preparation and records from the booked cleaning service. Maid Together provides a defined departure-cleaning scope, while the rental provider, property manager or RTBA determines the bond outcome.

Begin with the condition report

Consumer Affairs Victoria describes the condition report as the record used to compare the property at the start and end of the rental agreement. Review it before creating the task list and keep dated photos or other records where appropriate.

Victorian renters must leave the property reasonably clean and in the same condition as when they moved in, allowing for fair wear and tear. This guide is practical preparation, not legal advice.

  • Locate the original condition report.
  • Compare room, fixture and appliance notes.
  • Separate cleaning from damage or repairs.
  • Ask the rental provider or agent about access and final-inspection arrangements.

Remove belongings and rubbish first

Cleaning is more effective when cupboards, benches and floors are accessible. Remove personal items, dispose of rubbish appropriately and identify anything that must remain with the property.

Kitchen checklist

Use the agreement, condition report and booked service inclusions to confirm what applies.

  • Benches, splashbacks, sink and taps.
  • Cupboards and drawers where included and accessible.
  • Cooktop and rangehood surfaces.
  • Oven, fridge and dishwasher only according to the booked inclusion or selected extra.
  • Floors, edges and accessible skirting areas.

Bathrooms and laundry

Check showers, baths, basins, toilets, mirrors, fittings and accessible floors. Mould remediation, repairs and hazardous work are not ordinary domestic cleaning tasks.

  • Remove personal toiletries and laundry items.
  • Make surfaces and drains accessible.
  • Report maintenance problems separately rather than treating them as dirt.

Bedrooms and living areas

Clear floors and accessible surfaces. Review wardrobes, shelves, doors, switches, skirting, marks and fixtures against the booked inclusions and entry condition.

  • Dust accessible surfaces and fittings.
  • Vacuum or mop suitable floors.
  • Note wall marks that may need treatment beyond ordinary cleaning.
  • Check cupboards only where the selected service includes them.

Windows, tracks and walls

Window, track and wall work varies by access, condition and selected extras. High exterior glass, restoration, paint correction and specialist work may be outside a domestic service, so check the inclusions before booking.

Carpet and steam-cleaning limits

Accessible carpeted floors are vacuumed as part of End of Lease Cleaning. Maid Together does not currently provide carpet steam cleaning, hot-water extraction or professional carpet stain removal.

A cleaner may spot-treat a minor visible carpet stain at their discretion where it is safe and suitable, but spot treatment is not a booked checklist inclusion and no stain-removal outcome is promised. If professional carpet or steam cleaning is required, the customer must arrange it separately through another provider.

Consumer Affairs Victoria says professional cleaning can only be required in particular circumstances, including where the property must be returned to its starting state allowing for fair wear and tear, or where its condition requires professional cleaning. Check the agreement and official guidance.

Utilities, keys and access

Keep electricity, running water and suitable lighting available for the booked clean. Confirm entry, parking, keys and the handover timeline. Do not schedule the clean after utilities or lawful access have ended.

End of Lease Cleaning Concerns

If your agent identifies a cleaning concern relating to an item included in your End of Lease clean, contact us with the details. We’ll review the concern against your booked checklist and your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

Where possible, please contact us within 48 hours so we can investigate the concern while the condition of the property is recent. This requested timeframe does not limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Include your booking reference, the affected area and the relevant booked checklist item. Agent or rental-provider feedback and photos may also help where reasonably available, but they are not absolute requirements.

Nothing in this process excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

What the renter and Maid Together each handle

The renter remains responsible for belongings, rubbish, keys, records and communication with the rental provider. Maid Together performs the booked domestic-cleaning inclusions and selected extras. It cannot decide legal liability, repair damage or determine a bond outcome.

Official sources

Legal, rental and NDIS statements should be checked against the current official guidance. Maid Together does not replace legal, plan or funding advice.
